LAYA's New Single "Yeeha"

If LAYA isn’t on your radar yet, it’s officially time to lock in.

This week’s featured Ease Drop of the Week spotlight shines on Staten Island singer, songwriter, and visionary multidisciplinary artist LAYA. She’s taking her deep R&B roots into fresh, unexpected territory with her vibrant new single, “Yeeha.”

“Yeeha” effortlessly injects a touch of country into LAYA’s signature R&B world, seamlessly blending smooth, modern synths with the warm twang of pedal-steel guitar. The record is playful, flirtatious, and a standout testament to an artist completely unafraid to push creative boundaries.

LAYA is far from a newcomer. As a singer, songwriter, producer, creative director, and visual artist, the Staten Island native draws heavy inspiration from classic '90s R&B while crafting a sound uniquely her own. Ever since her breakout 2020 single “Sailor Moon” where she wrote, directed, shot, and edited the video, and handled her own hair, makeup, and styling, she’s built a reputation for complete artistic ownership. Her expanding catalog, featuring acclaimed projects like Um, Hello and Bet That, set the stage for the hands-on vision we see on “Yeeha.”

That signature visual storytelling shines in the accompanying music video. Beginning in familiar surroundings aboard a New York City subway, the setting abruptly shifts into a surreal, colorful countryside fantasy complete with open fields, farmlands, and horses, bringing a clever visual metaphor to her fusion of NYC roots and country aesthetics. Vocally, LAYA anchors the track in her R&B foundation. The progression of “Yeeha” gives her room to flex her range, moving gracefully from subtle, restrained verses to richly layered harmonies and explosive vocal moments.
